Floor Tiles - A low maintenance option with ease of cleaning

A thin, flat or convex slab of hard material such as baked clay or plastic, laid in rows to cover walls, floors, and roofs. Tiles are often used as wall or floor covering and range from simple square tiles to complex mosaic tiles. They are often made from ceramic, with a hard glaze finish, but others materials are also commonly used, such as granite, marble, glass, slate and reformed ceramic slurry. Ceramic and porcelain tiles are very popular for low maintenance and durability. Tiles come in varieties and ways to use them is truly endless. Innovative tile production has made flooring option very plentiful.

  1. Glazed Tiles- Ceramic tiles with a fused facial finish composed of ceramic material
  2. Mosaic Tiles- Ceramic tiles having a facial area of less than 6 square inches
  3. Paver Tiles- Ceramic tiles having a facial area of more than 6 square inches
  4. Polished Tiles- A tile that goes under final polishing step in which it is sanded to achieve a smooth-looking finish.
  5. Porcelain Tiles- Made from dry pressed porcelain clay resulting in tiles that is dense, impervious, and hard grained and smooth, sharply formed.

Again there are glazed and un-glazed types of floor tiles. There are two distinctive advantages of glazed tiles-color range is unlimited and has superior stain resistance. A good quality of glaze is non-porous protective glass quoting. The hardness of glaze and density of the glaze determine the overall strength of the tiles.

Unglazed tiles have two advantages. It is wear resistant as well as slip resistant in comparison to glaze tiles.

Both porcelain and ceramic floor tiles can be used to cover any surface where tile is typically laid. Thus many different styles can be created allowing this pattern. We can place a matte finish porcelain tile on the floor of a bathroom and polished porcelain of the same color on the walls and shower. A more transitional look can be created with the same space enhancing effect, by simply using a larger ceramic tile on the floors, and a smaller version of the same tile on the walls.

Where large fabric inspired porcelain tiles produce a modern living room, rustic ceramic tiles of varying sizes, laid in a pattern create a mudroom floor. Both materials can be washed with any type of tile cleanser, and while these materials are non-porous, and therefore stain resistant, it is recommended to seal polished porcelains prior to grouting.

Otherwise, these floors need little care to keep them looking good for years to come. Tiles are abrasion resistant, non-porous, stain resistant, dirt resistant, fire resistant and hygienic as does not retain liquids, or absorb fumes, odors or smoke. Just little water and damp cloth is all that is required to keep it clean.

Floor tiles are combination of beauty and outstanding durability and are versatile in use. Therefore, while carpet and vinyl beautify mainly drawing room or living area, usage for floor tile is limitless.
