red and black flying ants??all over the wood in my house!!!!?
ok, i dont no much about bugs..especially the ones that are in my house so please anyone who does help!!! i have what looks like a little water damage coming in along a wall betwen my bathroom and bedroom, coming from upstairs apt. im trying to call my landlord cant get ahold of him today but he knows about the water..i just saw a few flys in my bathroom, small ones like little ants with wings..i just looked at the bottom of the wall where the wood frame seems to be paint peeling at the bottom of that same wall and there is red large and small black flying ant looking things..crawling all over it.. ewwww..are they termites?? when i firstmoved in in Nov i noticed a bunch of thse same things dead along the frame of my sliding door in living room, but i just vaccuumed them up cause they were dead i thought maybe the place was empty for a while.are they infesting this house? what do i do? i am trying to get ahold of my LL but whats ganna happen then? are they ganna tear down wall to fix?
Ants with wings may very well be termites. There is such a thing as winged ants though. If it is termites, they will probably go into the wall. However, since it is a rental, I bet your landlord just tries to get by with spraying an insecticide. If it does turn out to be just ants, I have found two solutions that work pretty well. One is to put pepper (you can get white pepper) around my door jams and window sills. Also, cornmeal is a good deterent outside. You have to reapply after a rain.
