Bathroom Lighting - Advice On Getting The Right Bathroom Lights

Bathroom lighting has two important functions and this makes it one of the hardest rooms in the home to get right. You need higher than normal levels of illumination in the bathroom to make the daily job of making yourself pretty easy there is nothing worse than no being able to see yourself properly in the mirror in the morning. The other end of this is the end of the day when you just want to relax in a warm bath, ambient soft light is what you want not light that would be bright enough for a tennis court!

There are a lot of bathrooms out there that just have a single central light fitting but there is so much more that you can do with a bathroom lighting scheme, with wall lights, mirror lights, illuminated mirrors and shaver lights.

The bathroom ceiling light is probably the simplist and quickest of improvements you can make to your bathroom lighting scheme manufacturers have seen in recent times that the bathroom lighting market was somewhat lacking in style and have decided to fill the gap with a huge array of superb contemporary and tradtional bathroom ceiling light designs.

So the easiest, the bathroom ceiling light is dealt with, lets take a look now at what other lighting is available for the bathroom and how best you can use these lights.

Ok so you have got that standard bathroom ceiling light but fancy something a little different in your bathroom. How about downlights? These will give your bathroom great lighting coverage with excellent task lighting as they will be spread around the bathroom ceiling. Bathroom lights that are not often considered and really have only become popular recently are the bathroom wall light, these lights offer great general lighting in the bathroom but can also be toned down to provide a soft mood lighting using a dimmer switch outside of the bathroom as with the bathroom downlights. You will need to be careful when choosing bathroom wall lights as they must comply with the current bathroom lighting regulations with regards to safety, NEVER use wall lights meant for use in other areas of the home as these will pose a serious safety risk.

A bathroom mirror features in all bathrooms and this is an area that is often neglected in a bathroom lighting scheme. A number of options are available for illuminating the bathroom mirror that include mirror lights, shaver lights and illuminated bathroom mirrors. These various options will depend on a few things like your budget the current electrical wiring situation and how it fits with your current bathroom lighting scheme. Lighting in and around the bathroom mirror is worth serious consideration as these lights will but the light just where you need it and it avoids any shadowing from other lights in the bathroom.

All of the bathroom light fittings I have talked about above must be suitable for use in either zones 1,2 or 3 of the bathroom otherwise you may put you and your family at risk of serious injury with electric shocks, I know it's a basic thing to remember but water and electricity do not mix!
