I have a laptop with an second monitor attached, and cannot get it to mirror the first screen?
It was working fine until we switched it to "extended desktop". Ever since, we cannot get it to go back to mirroring the original display. It switches the primary display to either monitor, or stretches the desktop across both. We have tried unchecking the "extend windows desktop" box, and have restarted numerous times with the display unplugged.
In response to first answer...
Please see original details. We have tried turning off extended desktop, it just continues to extend with the box unchecked. Also, we have restarted with it plugged in and unplugged.
Just for anyone reading this, here's the solution I found on my own:
Dell requires you use their ATI drivers for the 1300 and 1400 series laptop cards. I found that the "Omega" series of drivers (Search google for "Omega Drivers) also works with Dell, even though "stock" ATI drivers won't. Uninstalled Dell drivers, installed Omega drivers, and now I can get into the "rest" of the ATI control panel to make this work.
Turn OFF extended desktop.
On laptop usually Fn + F3 is the "monitor" controller, to switch from internal / ext / both displays.
Power onlaptop with ext monitor attached, it will probably default to external.
Press the "monitor" button FN + key that looks like a laptop followed by a monitor)
Image should shift between Internal / External / Both . . . possibly not in that order.
Failing that, read manual for laptop.
