How do I make a wooden frame for a large mirror?
I need a large bathroom mirror and will probably be a custom size, so I thought the best option would be to make the frame with wood molding and buy the mirror at a specialty glass store. Can anyone tell me how to do it? How does the mirror sit securely inside the frame?
If you have a table saw, you can use any trim-grade lumber from the local hardware store or lumber yard. Cut the groove on all the boards at the same time, NOT MOVING the guard on the saw. Then measure the length of the board at the mid-point of the board where the groove comes out. Use the miter saw to cut the 45' angles to that point. If the mirror is larger than 16 sqft, consider very thick wood, with 6x3in nails across each joint (3 across, 3 down) along with very good wood glue. Most importantly, put the eye-hooks into the verticle frame pieces so the weight of the mirror will cause the frame to tighten, rather than loosen. (For something this size, definitely do NOT hang it from the top piece of the frame.)
