can you use a different mirror with a dresser/mirror than the one that's made with it, do they all fit or work?

There is no standardization at all in the case of dresser mirrors, but most of them are mounted with bolts or screws into the back of the dresser, and you could certainly use a different one if you have the frame and mount brackets.
