What should I do when I see an incident of road rage?

This morning on my way to work on a very busy 8-lane road, the SUV in front of me braked all of the sudden, presummedly because the car in front of him stopped or maybe cut him off. This SUV driver had just cut me off not shortly before. I had no problem stopping before I hit him, because I was following from a safer distance. After that happened, he sped into the lane to the right, and pulled up right beside the car that had been in front of him that was occupied by an elderly couple. He rolled down his window and was yelling at them things I couldn't hear, then reached out and hit at the lady in the passenger side (though I believe he only hit her mirror). He then went on and turned at the exit for the highway while the couple pulled over. In hindsight, I probably should have stopped to make sure they were okay, but as a young woman I'm hesitant about stopping for my own safety. Is there something I could have done to help out the situation?

Get license plate and call police if you want to get involved but I would avoid doing this as the person you are reporting is pretty scary as you just observed. Do you want them coming after you? If you can report it anonymously do so.
